Kim's Biography

Kim Richter has been elected 7 consecutive terms as a Langley Township Councillor in British Columbia, Canada and is currently a Metro Vancouver Regional District Board member representing Langley Township. She is the mother of three wonderful adult children, a spouse of 40 years, and a professor of Business Management at Kwantlen Polytechnic University, where she was also previously elected Faculty representative on the Kwantlen Board of Directors.

Kim and her husband Bob (a former businessman and corporate executive) moved to the Salmon River Uplands area of Langley from Calgary in 1986. Their three children (Stafford, Sterling & Graecen) all started school at North Otter Elementary and attended Fort Langley Fine Arts High School. Stafford and Graecen both graduated from Kwantlen Polytechnic University. Sterling graduated from Emily Carr University.

Since moving to Langley, Kim has been an active participant in the community. She believes very strongly in the value of healthy communities and has been a vocal advocate on health issues. Her extensive volunteer activities in health care and her track record at the Council table have demonstrated her ability to work successfully with all sides of an issue. She can agree to disagree. She does her homework and she consults with many before making a decision.

Kim believes that a healthy community is a good place to grow up in and to grow old in. It’s a place where people look out for each other and help one another. In a healthy community, everyone counts not just a special few. This is why Kim has been a strong defender of public input to Council decisions.

Langley was, is, and should continue to be a healthy community and a safe place to live. It’s mainly a question of public input, balance and community priorities.

Says Kim: “I value this community. Bob and I came here to raise our family because we wanted them to grow up in fresh air and green space. We were enchanted with Langley then and we still are. In addition to its natural beauty and its rich history, it is a community of warm and caring people who give generously of their time in many different volunteer capacities. I believe it is vital that Langley remains a great place to live, work and play.
